- Use the restroom before starting
- Put your phone on silent and out of reach
Starting the Quiz
Navigate to the quiz activity from your course dashboard or LMS.
You will see the Quiz Information Page, which displays important details:
- Open/Close dates: The window when the quiz is available
- Time limit: How long you have once you start (the timer begins immediately!)
- Grading method: How your final grade is calculated if multiple attempts are allowed
- Attempts allowed: How many times you can take the quiz
- Monitoring: Whether camera/screen recording is required
Read all information carefully, then click Attempt quiz now to begin.
If monitoring is enabled, you’ll be prompted to set up your camera and/or screen sharing before the quiz loads.
⚠️ Important: The timer starts as soon as you click “Attempt quiz now.” Make sure you’re ready before starting!
Taking the Quiz
Once started, you’ll see your questions. Here’s everything you need to know about the quiz interface.
The Quiz Interface
Your screen will show:
- Question area: The main area displaying the current question(s)
- Timer: Countdown showing remaining time (if time-limited)
- Quiz Navigation: A panel showing all question numbers for quick access
- Next/Previous buttons: Navigate between pages
Navigation
Moving through the quiz is simple:
- Click Next page to move forward
- Click Previous page to go back (if free navigation is allowed)
- Click any question number in the Quiz Navigation panel to jump directly to that question
- Question numbers change color to show status: Gray = Not yet answered, Green/Filled = Answered, Orange flag = Flagged for review
Auto-Save Feature
Your answers are saved automatically. You don’t need to click a save button. Here’s how it works:
- When you navigate to a different page, your current answers are saved
- Periodic auto-saves happen even if you stay on the same page
- If you lose connection, your saved answers are preserved
- Just reconnect and continue where you left off
💡 Tip: While auto-save is reliable, it’s good practice to move to the next page after answering to trigger an immediate save.
Flagging Questions
Not sure about an answer? Flag the question to review later:
- Click the flag icon (đźš©) next to the question number
- Flagged questions appear marked in the Quiz Navigation panel
- Before submitting, you can easily find and revisit all flagged questions
- Flagging is just for your reference—it doesn’t affect your grade
Timer and Warnings
If your quiz has a time limit:
- The timer counts down continuously in the corner of your screen
- You’ll receive a warning when 5 minutes remain
- You’ll receive a final warning when 1 minute remains
- When time expires, either Auto-submit (your quiz is automatically submitted with whatever you’ve answered) or Grace period (you get a short additional time to submit but can’t answer new questions) will happen depending on settings.
⚠️ Don’t wait until the last second! Click “Finish attempt” with at least 1-2 minutes remaining to ensure you have time to review and submit.
Submitting Your Attempt
When you’re ready to submit, follow these steps carefully.
Click Finish attempt… (found at the bottom of the quiz or in the navigation panel).
You’ll see the Attempt Summary page showing:
- All questions with their answer status (Answered, Not answered, Flagged)
- Easy identification of any questions you may have missed
- Links to return to any question to review or change your answer
Review the summary carefully. Click on any question to return and modify your answer.
When satisfied, click Submit all and finish.
A confirmation dialog appears. Click Submit all and finish again to confirm.
⚠️ Final Submission is Permanent: Once you confirm submission, you cannot go back and change answers (unless your instructor allows multiple attempts).
After Submitting
What you see after submission depends on your instructor’s settings:
Immediate Feedback (if enabled)
- Your total score and grade
- Which questions were correct/incorrect
- Correct answers and explanations
- Specific feedback for your responses
Delayed Feedback
For exams, instructors often hide detailed feedback until after the submission deadline. You may see:
- A confirmation that your attempt was submitted
- Your overall score (or “Grade not yet available”)
- A message about when full results will be available
Grades
Your grade is calculated automatically for most question types and synced to your LMS gradebook. For essays and other manually-graded questions, your grade will update after the instructor reviews your responses.
